PRESENTATION

Studio Pietrangeli (SP) was established in Rome in 1964 by Giorgio Pietrangeli to provide specialized consulting engineering services for large civil works.

SP projects currently under construction or nearing completion include (but are not limited to):

  • HYDROPOWER PLANTS - more than 3000 MW (6 large plants)
  • DAMS – the world’s highest RCC dam (240 m)
  • HYDRAULIC TUNNELS (up to 26 km)

SP’s engineering services cover all the aspects of civil works projects from conception to feasibility, through investigations, environmental impact assessment, preliminary design, final design and tender documents, construction design, supervision of construction and technical assistance during definition of contractual terms.

Alongside the more traditional schemes, Studio Pietrangeli, from its beginnings, has always been involved in complex engineering tasks requiring innovative solutions. Nowadays, many of the firm’s projects are conceived in only a few weeks through the adoption of so-called “fast track” techniques using satellite imagery, helicopter surveys, surface geotechnical investigations, and so on.

Although the firm’s core engineering activities in recent years have been concentrated mainly on dams and hydropower projects, the firm offers a complete range of engineering services in several sectors including large scale hydraulic works such as water supply systems, irrigation plants, flood control and river training schemes, recreational marinas, and important civil works such as tunnels, roads, bridges, etc..

The firm’s long experience has been acquired through the successful design, in over 26 countries, of more than 130 dams, 30 hydropower plants, 172 km of tunnels, 1100 km of roads, 17 irrigations schemes, 30 water supply and waste water projects and confirms the outstanding quality of the services provided.

SP’s staff includes internationally renowned experts in several engineering domains, coordinated by the firm’s directors with more than 40 years’ experience in the design and supervision of construction of large civil engineering structures.

While SP’s main office is in Rome, the firm also has permanent premises in Sierra Leone, Ecuador and Ethiopia and makes use of partners’ facilities in Mexico, Kenya and Tanzania
