The engineering services provided by Studio Pietrangeli include the design of large civil works and particularly tunnels, roads and bridges, industrial and military facilities, housing complexes and special concrete and steel structures.

Among its more significant and unconventional accomplishments, SP boasts the multi-sector Tana Beles project for the development of the Beles valley in Ethiopia which comprised the design and construction of numerous roads and bridges, a hospital, several clinics and a landing strip.

Of the many tunnels and shafts designed and constructed, the 26 km long Gibe II hydraulic tunnel is particularly worth mentioning.

This tunnel is presently under construction and is being carried out using a “design-while-building” method.

The intake and outlet tunnels for the Beles hydropower project, totaling approximately 20 km, are also currently under construction. All these tunnels are being excavated using Tunnel Boring Machines (TBM), thus reducing excavation times and construction costs.
