The design of dams has always been one of the firm's core activities.


Alongside more traditional engineering schemes, Studio Pietrangeli has always proposed innovative solutions in specialized domains starting in the 1970's with the Legadadi (Ethiopia) and Busalletta (Italy) projects.


Since then, SP’s substantial international experience has continued to grow through the successful design and/or supervision of construction of more than 130 dams in 25 countries.


The firm is currently responsible for the engineering of several large dams under construction or nearing completion.

The RRC (Roller Compacted Concrete) type Gibe III dam is of particular importance since it will reach a height of 240 m thus earning it the title of the world’s highest RCC dam.


Studio Pietrangeli is also currently working on numerous other dam projects throughout Italy, Africa and South America.

SP’s technical expertise covers all aspects of the design and construction of arch, gravity (conventional concrete and Roller Compacted Concrete), arch-gravity, hollow-gravity, earthfill and rockfill (bituminous and concrete faced) dams.
